Description

The front of the coin shows Emperor Nero in profile with the inscription NERO CAESAR AUGUSTUS. On the back, the highest Roman god Jupiter sits on a throne. He holds a scepter in his right hand and a bundle of lightning in his left. The inscription refers to him as IUPPITER CUSTOS. He is here as a guard (custos) for the emperor and the empire, which guarantees the well-being and existence of the imperial family and the empire.

The Aureus was minted between 63 and 68 AD.
