Description

The crown consists of a spout made of shiny gold bronze sheet metal, which ends in a carefully crafted bull's head. Two snake bodies are soldered to the side, from which dragon heads grow with raised forehead crests. At the back of the head of the bull and the snakes you can see soldered joints; a plate probably needs to be added here.

Such a standard was certainly used in the cult of the god Jupiter Dolichenus. Especially since it was found in the well of a Jupiter Dolichenus sanctuary. This god was particularly worshiped by soldiers. It has its origins in the city of Doliche in the southeast of what is now Türkiye.
