Description

The bust depicts a Nubian boy. The short neck develops into the childlike head with full cheeks and thick, slightly parted lips. The short and wide nose sits between the wide-set eyes with drilled pupils. The hair is arranged in individual curly strands twisted like a corkscrew over the head and down to the nape of the neck.

The bust is hollow inside as a vessel. The round cut-out part of the skull cap serves as a lid. The curved carrying handle moves in the eyelets on the side of the head, and the vessel stands on a base. Ointments or powders for body care were stored and transported in bust containers. They were particularly widespread along the Rhine and Danube.
