Description
The stonemason put a lot of effort into reproducing the body armor on the stone statue of the Celtic prince. Unfortunately, there is no information from the central grave 1 on Glauberg as to what material the body armor was once made of. However, the “linothorax” is known from numerous ancient illustrations, an armor made of several layers of material (fabric!) glued together. Since the Celts had a lively exchange with the peoples of the Mediterranean and were inspired by their ideas, it is easy to imagine that the “Linothorax” also found its way across the Alps. Finally, the Celts also wove fabrics from linen.
But material against arrow-fire, lance thrusts and sword blows? Can this work? The small experiment in the video is intended to convince people of the effectiveness of the antique “bulletproof vest”. For the test, 12 layers of linen fabric were glued together with hide glue.
