Description
One of the gold offerings that particularly underline the outstanding position of the dead man from grave 1 at Glauberg is a finger ring. With an inner diameter of 1.8 centimeters, it corresponds approximately to today's ring size 57. It is made up of several individual parts, with the decorative elements made of pearl wire being welded to the rest of the ring. According to the excavation documentation, the dead man wore the ring on his right ring finger. This is also the position where the depiction of a ring can be seen on the sandstone statue from Glauberg. Wearing a ring on the ring finger has a long tradition. The fact that rings were often made of gold in the past is also what earned the ring finger the name gold finger.
