Description
The half lid made of sheet bronze was originally soldered onto a flat basin with a rounded bottom. This basin had a pouring spout in front of which a strainer insert was attached. Sieve basins with half lids are considered tableware and were probably used to filter out suspended matter such as coarsely chopped spices from wine or beer.
The screen lid of the train coat is decorated with a hunting scene. Depicted in incised lines is a dog chasing a deer. This motif is surrounded by hallmarked decorative bands with wavy lines. The lid was covered with a white metal coating, leaving out the image motif and decorative bands. In this way a colored contrast was achieved.
