Description

It is made from a single piece of leather Carbatina made for a man. The toe part, which has been largely supplemented today, consisted of a mesh of straps. The straps with the eyelets above the instep are decorated with various decorative motifs such as the “running dog“ – a wavy motif – worked openwork.

The shoe described here was one of the earliest leather finds in the Saalburg and probably dates from the first half of the second century.
