Description
The oval, even face of the female mask frames a high, curly hairstyle. A striking tiara crowns the hairstyle. The mask was formed in a clay model and painted after firing. It is to be understood as a miniature representation of theater masks that were worn during pantomime performances. This is what the closed mouth indicates.
The small female terracotta masks came to light in the Germanic provinces as additions to graves from the late 3rd and 4th centuries AD.
