Description
The head reproduces the delicate features of a horse in great detail. The headgear is richly decorated with a forehead plate and medallions. They show the god of war Mars and the goddess of victory Victoria. The head is hollow inside.
The horse's head originally belonged to an equestrian statue that was probably placed in the forum of the Roman settlement of Waldgirmes. After the settlement ended, the head was carefully deposited in a well 6 meters deep between millstones and thus survived.
