Description

The upright goddess carries a naked boy on her left arm, facing the viewer. In her right hand she holds a jug. The figure is dressed in a floor-length robe that is tied over the left shoulder and leaves the right breast exposed. The unbelted dress falls down to the knees with the overhang. Traces of red painting can be seen on the base and face of the statuette.

Such depictions of goddesses with children are considered protective deities of home and field. On the back of the base you can read VINDEX / FEC(it) in raised letters. The inscription proves that the figure came from Vindex's Cologne-based studio.
