Description

The goddess Fortuna sits on a wide throne. She wears a crown of rays in her hair, which falls long to her shoulders. She holds the cornucopia in her left arm and an apple in her right hand. There are branches with three small flowers in the cornucopia. The cornucopia and fruits are symbols of the abundance that Fortuna pours out on people.

The goddess is dressed in a thin, long-sleeved undergarment and a cloak, which she has wrapped around her lower body and rolled across her lap. Between the cloak and the undergarment you can see another robe, fastened on both shoulders with a brooch, which hangs low on the front and is pinned with a third brooch under the neckline. This local women's costume is called "Menimane costume" after the depiction on the tombstone of the Menimane from Mainz.

The statuette was created in a Middle Rhine workshop around the middle of the 2nd century.
