Description
The goddess wears a diadem over her forehead and her hair falls down to her shoulders. The facial features are only very roughly reproduced. She is dressed in a thin undergarment, the tunica, and an outer garment made of heavy cloth, the palla. The goddess is enthroned on a chair with a half-high backrest. A small puppy sits in her lap, facing left, with her ears pricked up. In her left hand she holds an offering bowl. With her right hand she gathers the robe above the knee.
The statuette comes from a workshop in the Moselle region and was made in the second half of the 2nd century. She was found in a fire-damaged cellar of the vicus (camp village) at Zugmantel Castle and was therefore installed as a protective deity in the domestic area.
