Description
The goddess wears a thin undergarment, the tunica, belted under the breast, and over it an outer garment made of heavy cloth, the palla. She sits on a high-backed throne. There are fruits on the robe in her lap and she holds an apple in her left hand. The fruits indicate the goddess's power to bestow fertility.
The statuette comes from a workshop in the Moselle region and was made in the last third of the 2nd century. It was found in the area of a country estate that was excavated on Wingertsberg in Bad Homburg vdH, where it was probably part of the furnishings of a small domestic shrine.
