Description
Using simple plastic means, the sculptor was able to reproduce the characteristic body structure and movement of a pigeon. The bird appears to be walking on the ground and is looking intently to the side with its head slightly tilted.
The statuette was found in a well along with another dove of the same size and shape and fragments of a consecration altar. Both doves can therefore easily be imagined as votive offerings to a female deity, although the divine addressee remains unknown.
