Description

The handle, flattened on the back, was attached with eyelets to split pins that were attached to a wooden box or chest.

In the middle of the construction is a bust of the bearded sea god Neptune. The bust is carried on both sides by dolphins in their open mouths. The animals' tails are raised and bent over because they serve as holders for the eyelets of the fastening pins. Among the dolphins, sea panthers hang down with their heads turned back. These mythological hybrid creatures consist of a fish body with a large tail fin and a panther head.
