Description
The dental pliers have long, straight handles that end in a ball knob. The handles were probably wrapped in leather or cloth to ensure safe handling. The bayonet-shaped barrel part runs straight as an extension of the handles and ends in a V-shaped notched grip surface, which should fix the tooth as securely as possible. Thin bronze discs were inserted on both sides of the pliers lock, which enabled the pliers to move particularly smoothly.
The special forceps for tooth extraction are strikingly similar to modern maxillary forceps. However, in ancient times, tooth extraction was the last resort when treating a diseased tooth due to the high health risks.
